Does anybody know why talkies were popular in the 1920-1930?
It really very simple… “Talkies” were popular then for the same reason they’re popular now… It makes the film going experience more real if you can hear people rather than simply see them moving their lips. Would you like to sit through a movie with no sound? Well people back then had no choice. And when sound entered the movies, it was another sense that was added, and it made the pictures come alive. Imagine being deaf and then suddenly being able to hear. That’s why Talkies took off.
