Does anybody know of some successful high school drop-out prevention programs?
I’m connected with an organization in Holyoke MA (a community which often has the highest teen pregnancy rate and highest drop out rate in the state) called The Care Center. (www.carecenterholyoke.org). It serves pregnant and parenting teens who have already dropped out of school, get their GED and go on to college at a rate of 80%. Small class sizes, arts, humanities and athletics are critical pieces of this program. Further, an assumption and expectation of success are a key piece of the organization’s philosophy. I know this isn’t identical to what you asked for, but the results of this organization are so extraordinary that their practices might be useful for your conference.
