Does anybody know of any alto or bass clarinets that are cheap?
The best way to find an inexpensive alto or bass clarinet is probably a used one. Contact clarinet teachers and woodwind performers in your area to find out if they have one or know someone who is looking to sell. You may also want to contact music colleges- sometimes they have students who drop out and want to sell their instruments. Use caution with Ebay, becuase you never know what condition the instrument is REALLY in. When you find a used instrument – play before buying!! Check the tuning, feel, and repair of instrument. If possible, get a qualified instrument technician to examine it for leaky keys, bent keys, hairline cracks, loose cork…. As a musician, I totally understand your hesitation about expensive instruments!!! My only caution to you is that cheaper instruments are generally of much lower quality.
