Sarah Lawrence is a small coeducational liberal arts college, offering undergraduate as well as graduate degrees. Located just fifteen miles north of New York City on a wooded campus, Sarah Lawrence is nationally renowned for its rigorous academic standards. These are fostered by small seminar classes and individual student-faculty conferences made possible by a very low student-to-faculty ratio of 6-to-1. Long respected as a national leader in arts education, Sarah Lawrence recognizes the creative and performing arts as integral to a liberal arts education. The belief in the social purpose has been manifested in a number of ways. The tradition of fieldwork was central to the College’s beginnings. During the Depression, local agencies asked the College for assistance in collecting data for anti-poverty efforts.
