Does anybody have tips for making midi drums sound more realistic?
… and people, whether they’re playing drums or some other kind of instrument, never play exactly the same way. They follow the beat but don’t sync to it. They play notes but almost every repetition is ever-so-slightly different. This kick is just a little bit harder than that one. During this passage the drummer might be “leading” the beat by a few 64’ths; in the next one he might be “following.” The ear is very, very sensitive to these slight nuances. Turn off the reverb, turn off the quantize function, and let very tiny variations creep into your music. You’ll see it as the “realism” you’re looking for.
