There is only one highway through the Rogers Pass(highway 1).One summer I was traveling East and the road was blocked because of a mud slide that crossed the highway. The water and debris were running to fast and deep to cross. The only other way east was Highway 3 and that was about 8 hours out of my way.I slept in my car overnight. The next day,we were waiting to get through.A cop car was parked on the side of the road, then suddenly there was a large bang in the bushes above the highway, and down came gushing more debris and very large trees. We told the cop he had better move his car, which he did just in time before a massive tree flew across the road. The national news (CBC) flew in on a helicopter to interview some of us,and I was on national news being interviewed. A few hours later we could carry on our journey.

When I was a kid we drove through Roger Pass in our light-green-blue Ford several times. With us kids sleeping in the flatbed of the truck with canopy it was apparently OK then, I was eating a bag of Cheezies. There were Big Horn sheep blocking the way and as we pulled through real slow they came right up to the window. One guy/girl (sheep) stuck their face right up to me and I held out a Cheezie; it was really quite the sensation this beast nibbling my Cheezie looking right at me – it was amazing and I will never forget it!
