It is actually cheaper to you use a water softening product in a hard water area than not to as you only require to use the amount of detergent for a soft water area – this could be as much as half the soap powder that you are currently using. The saving on the detergent is more than the cost of the water softener and you have piece of mind that the limescale is not building up. You only have to look at the shower in a hard water area to realise what limescale can do, and although your machine may not have broken down as a result of limescale it will have become far less efficient (so increased running cost) and gradually less effective at cleaning (often only noticeable by the time you buy a new machine). Do use a water softening product if you are in hard water area but no need to use the most expensive and do you really need the convenience of the tablet – aqua soft is cheaper just use a tablespoon to put some in your detergent drawer.
