Does any think the American Attachment Therapy is a sick evil way to make kids love thier parent…?
To be honest I’d never heard of this (I’m a student social worker so I’ve studied Attachment Theory) so I did a quick internet search and I’m appalled to see that this has been going on since the 1980s and several children have died. This is actually proposing the reverse of what Attachment Theory tells us – the principle of Attachment Theory is that the relationship with the caregiver forms a template which influences future relationships. Children with attachment disorder have difficulty forming relationships because of this initial deficiency in parenting NOT because they have pent up anger that needs to be released and re-programmed. Thank you for making me aware of this practice. Please be assured that there are many psychological treatments for attachment disorder that are totally humane and seek to build up trust and resilience in affected children.
