My advice for beginner: – Use annual plants in planters, that way you don’t have to worry about soil quality, just buy potting soil. Also don’t need to worry to mix different kind of plants in one planter, just use same plants in one planter like impatiens, petunia, begonia, coleus, zinnia, geranium. – Buy different size of planters (small, medium, big) and different colors too to create drama/flowing effects. Group planters that need same conditions (sun/shade, water) so easier to maintain. – After that you need to place them in the right area with the right amount of sunlight (Full Sun/ Partial Sun/ Shade). See when you plant them in planters, you can move them around your house until you find the right spot. This is the most important factor for gardening. You need to spend your 1-2 yrs to understand the light factor around the house. – After you know which areas get full sun/ partial sun/ shade, then you can start planting perennials the next year.
