Does any body remember the meaning of the word sacrilege?

I felt that it was sacrilege to steal the “Arbeit Macht Frei” sign from Auschwitz, with everything that it represented in terms of human misery and degradation, and to cut it into small pieces. I also felt that it was sacrilege for that British yob a few weeks ago to urinate on a war memorial. As far as the show you describe is concerned, I experienced a similar sense of disgust some years ago when I attended a service of my old school in Westminster Abbey and there was a kind of talent show (of which I didn’t see the point) which included a gymnastics display. I’m obviously out of touch in feeling that gymnastics and worship are to be kept apart.
