Does Animal Control target feral cat colonies?
• Well-managed colonies, where animals are all neutered or are in the process of being TNRd are not targeted by Animal Control. Animal Control only gets involved in feral cat issues when there is a complaint against one or more animals in the colony. These complaints may be made directly to Animal Control, or may be filed with the Department of Health or Zoning in the form of a nuisance complaint, hoarding complaint, etc. These complaints, by law, require investigation and on occasion, removal of the animals involved. • If calls come in to Animal Control about feral cats, they are referred to the Feral Cat Program, where questions and concerns can be vetted and possibly mediated prior to removal. Individuals are encouraged to use TNR and other humane methods of deterrence for nuisance behaviors.
