Does an MPH or other masters a degree earned outside of an ACGME residency count as GME for state licensure?
A. No. This may be a problem for graduates who will seek licensure in a state that requires three years of GME. For example a resident who completed an MD/MPH program, then a PGY-1 year, then a practicum year would be counted as having only two years of GME. In contrast, an MPH earned as part of an accredited residency currently counts as GME for state licensure.
