Does America Need More Gun Control?
From The LA Times Day 1 of a gun control debate between Gun lobbyist Richard Feldman and gun control advocate Paul Helmke. Paul discusses the need for gun control in the wake of the recent mass shootings in Pittsburgh, PA and Binghamton, NY. Both shootings were executed with guns legally bought despite the killers’ questionable integrity, raising the need to require background checks for all gun purchases, even private sellers and gun shows. He cites the 30,000 deaths and 70,000 injuries per year in the U.S. and calls for stronger gun control at a national level. Richard counterpoints, saying “this is a crime problem, not a gun problem”, and that “it’s not the gun… it’s in whose hands the guns are”.
