Does Almaden still have mountain lions?
Editor, Back in September of last year there were sightings of mountain lions along the Alamitos Creek. I would like to see some follow-up on the article written by Barbara Luis. Since the sightings I have curtailed my hiking along the creek and I would like to know if it is now safe to continue walking along the creek. Lucille Hanks Editor’s response, I contacted Mike Phillips, the wildlife specialist for the Santa Clara County Vector Control District and he told me that he received a call recently from San Jose city parks rangers, who said they’ve found recent deer carcasses along Alamitos Creek (in Almaden Valley), which means there’s still a distinct possibility of at least one mountain lion still active in the area.
