Does alcohol cause ulcers?
If consumed in excess, alcohol can irritate the stomach lining that protects the tissue from digestive juices and can increase the production of stomach acids. This is called gastritis. However, it’s unknown whether this alone can cause an ulcer or if it needs the H. pylori bacteria as an accomplice. So far, there is no clear, direct relationship between alcohol and ulcers. Alcohol, however, can delay the healing of an ulcer; so, avoid it during recovery.
