Does Alacritech support multiple default gateways?
Applies to: Non-SNP aware drivers only. No. The Alacritech TCP stack doesn’t allow for multiple default gateways, and when multiple default gateways are defined, the one that Alacritech chooses to use is not necessarily going to be the same one that Microsoft chooses. This means sometimes it will work just fine, and other times it will cause bizarre errors that are very difficult to troubleshoot. The most common symptom is that you can have icmp traffic (like ping) take a different route to a target than TCP traffic. We would like to point out that even Microsoft does not recommend multiple default gateways on disjoint networks. Reference their whitepaper on TCP/IP Implementation When a computer is multihomed with NICs attached to disjoint networks (networks that are separate from and unaware of each other, such as a private network using private addressing and the Internet), routing problems may arise. It is often necessary to set up static routes to the private networks in this situa
