KAZZI MD1, , SEETHA SHANKARAN MD1 1 Department of Pediatrics, Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, MI 48201 Dr Leblanc brings up an important issue regarding the safe use of purines, such as adenosine infusion, used in our study over a prolonged period of time. We did not measure uric acid levels in serum or urine in our study. Therefore, we are unable to comment on potential nephrotoxicity of this drug. However, previous studies published in adult humans and adult rats show that the dose of adenosine used in our study should not affect the uric acid excretion or lead to nephrotoxicity.
