Does acupuncture relieve airway obstruction in horses with heaves?
This study investigated if acupuncture treatments can provide short-term relief of airway obstruction in horses with heaves. In a crossover study, horses receive no treatment, acupuncture by an experienced acupuncturist who designs treatments to the needs of the horse, and acupuncture by a novice who used prescribed points. Lung function was measured before and for up to 24 hours after treatment. Acupuncture did not improve lung function. The paper describing this investigation is in press.
