Does Active Living Research prioritize funding selections based on proposed use of specific research methodologies?
Primarily, it is the responsibility of the applicant to justify the quality, validity, and relevance of the methods used. We do encourage objective measures of environments (for example, with GIS or direct observations) and objective measures of physical activity (accelerometers, pedometers, or direct observation). When working with young people, it is especially important to use objective measures of physical activity. Applicants are encouraged to use the tools and measures posted on the Active Living Research Web site to increase the use of common measures.
