Does AC mean electrical energy flows through the neutral wire as well as the live wire?
Do not get energy and current mixed up. In a DC circuit the current flows in one direction all the time, so lets says the current flows from the live wire through the load and back to the power supply through the neutral wire. Energy is only used when there is a voltage across a load and also current is flowing. In reality, energy is dissipated by the connecting wires that is why cables can get warm. You hope that this heat energy is a minimum by using cables that are thick enough to have a low Resistance. In an AC circuit, everything is exactly the same except, the direction of the current changes regularly, so current flow from the live wire through the load and then back through the neutral wire, then at some later point the current changes direction and flows from the neutral wire through the load and back through the live wire.
