Does a software escrow protect copyright?
A software escrow is mostly used to protect trade secrets, but it can also protect copyright as a side effect. When the ownership of a copyright falls into dispute, one of the legal questions that comes up is “Who first created the software?”. Under those circumstances, having a dated and sealed copy of the software provides a very useful piece of evidence in establishing a claim of first creation.
