Does a product contain Irish pork?
Thanks to EU ‘mis’ labelling this is impossible to tell. Anything labelled “Produced in the EU” could contain Irish Pork. Products labelled “Produced in Britain” could have been made in (say) Hull with pork shipped in from Southern Ireland. We can place our faith in the Supermarkets or only buy products which are labelled as made from English, Welsh or Scottish pork. Pork from Northern Ireland might be affected. Buy local In in doubt buy from a good local butcher or farm shop who can give you provenance. If my butcher can guarantee tell me that his pork comes from a farm 10 miles up the road that is good enough for me! Avoid processed pork products and ready meals. Think label If a product is made in Britain with British produced meat it will proudly say so. Look for the Little Red Tractor on British pork. Campaign for better food labelling – I want to know where meat was reared and where it was made into a product. http://www.food.gov.uk/news/newsarchive/2008/dec/porkadvice Search for
