Although a Probate Court is commonly thought of as dealing with the distribution of a person’s propÂerty after death, there are many functions of the Court that assist the living. The Court may be called upon to terminate parental rights when parents are not carrying out parental responsibilities and, in a related matter, hear claims of paternity of unwed fathers.
