Does a pregnant woman have to fast Ramadan?
No. She doesn’t even need to make up the fasts. She also doesn’t need to fast if she is breastfeeding because it would take her 2 years and 9 months to make it all up. She can just feed 60 poor people for every Ramadan she missed. 9 months for the prengnancy and 2 years for nursing the infant from her breasts. It would be impossible for her to make up the fasts if she gets pregnant every year. Women, however, are further exempt from the fast if they are pregnant or are breast-feeding, unless fasting does not interrupt feeding schedules nor creates a serious imbalance in the natural supply and quality of milk so as to disturb the baby. This exemption is again to the favor of women, as Allah intends the mother should not have to undergo undue hardship.
