Does a pond stay cleaner the deeper it is?

0

Our ponds are built to a depth of 15 feet. This is usually deep enough to support most types of fish and is deep enough for recreational purposes. Ponds become dirty or overgrown with algae and cattails when the side slopes are constructed too shallow. When the side slopes are not steep enough it allows sunlight to penetrate through the water and onto the slopes which starts the overgrowth of algae and other vegetation. The answer is not how deep the pond is but rather how steep the side slopes are built.
