Does a physician need to co-sign a prescription or orders written by an RN(EP)/NP?
No. While an RN(EP)/NP often works in collaboration with doctors, pharmacists, RNs and other health care professionals they are responsible and accountable for their own practice. In other words, they work independently and have the legal authority to write prescriptions, order diagnostic and screening tests and manage the results, and perform minor surgical and invasive procedures as outlined in the Extended Practices Regulation.
