Does a Person With Androgenic Alopecia (AGA) Have Bald Spots?
I recently heard from a woman who had a small bald spot at the crown of her head. Because her father was nearly bald, she had assumed that she likely had AGA or androgenic alopecia. But, before she made this assumption, she wanted to be sure that people with AGA hair loss sometimes have bald or thinning spots (rather than complete baldness.) People with androgenic hair loss can and often do have areas on their scalp that are very sparse or bald. But usually, this is a gradual process. Very abrupt and drastic hair loss that leaves patchy bald spots on the scalp could possibly indicate another type of hair loss. I will discuss this more in the following article. The Progression Of AGA Hair Loss Ending Up With Bald Spots: You probably already know this, but AGA is usually a gradual and progressive process. Typically, people with this type of hair loss do not necessarily have the drastic or very abrupt type of loss that you see with conditions like telogen effluvium (TE) or alopecia areata
