Does a nurse need to go on a field trip if a non self directed student going on the trip has an order for epinephrine?
While a nurse needs to administer medication on a field trip to a non self directed student, the state has made an exception for epinephrine and glucagon. The school nurse can train a willing school volunteer to administer epinephrine and/or glucagon to a particular student in the absence of the nurse. Memos regarding these issues can be found on the Laws and Guidelines page of this website under the heading “Medications”.
