Does a mailbox have to have a little red flag?
Austin, it’s not a requirement, more a courtesy. Our old mailbox’s flag broke off and we left it that way for years, since we rarely place outgoing mail in the box. (That’s what it signals.) Since just about every household receives mail every day, any outgoing mail in the box will be discovered by the mail carrier soon enough. Home improvement stores sell replacement/repair flag kits, BTW.
