Does a higher SPF mean more sunburn protection?
Yes, it does. SPF (Sun Protection Factor) measures how much longer you can stay in the sun before getting burned than without a sunscreen. That means that you can stay out in the sun 15 times longer with an SPF 15 than you could without. However, SPF only refers to the amount of protection you get from UVB rays . It doesn’t measure UVA rays. While UVB rays are mostly responsible for the burning and UVA rays are mostly responsible for the signs of aging, both UVA and UVB rays have been linked to skin cancer. Be sure to use a sunscreen that provides broad or full spectrum (UVA and UVB) protection against the damaging sun’s rays.
