Does a high protein, low carbohydrate diet have any effect – good or bad – on prostate health?
It depends on what foods you actually eat. It is useful to reduce red meat, and increase fresh fruit and coloured vegetables. This can easily be done with a high protein, lower carbohydrate diet. Simply reduce grains and other starches, and use fish, Whey Protein Concentrate formulae (like Perfect Protein) and lean white meats as your main protein sources, while including LARGE amounts of non-starchy vegies and a variety of fruit. There is currently some great research being conducted into the possible immune enhancing and prostate cancer preventing functions of whey protein constituents such as lactoferrin and immunoglobulins (among others). Although this research is new and in its preliminary stages, results to date have been very promising.
