Does a geranium trichome contain chloroplasts?
The basic epidermal cells of most species contain no chloroplasts. However trichomes are a set of specialized epidermis cells. Some deep shade and aquatic plants are exceptions and show some epidermal chloroplasts. Also glandular trichomes have been found to have a few chloroplasts so it is possible the geranium or pelargonium glandular trichomes have a few. http://www.biologie.uni-hamburg.de/b-onl… Phillyrea latifolia have a few chloroplasts in their glandular trichomes. http://aob.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/conten… Sweet basil trichomes http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.
