If a mother desires a doula to be present during a cesarean section and the medical facility allows support in the operating room with the mother, then a doula can absolutely attend the cesarean. The emotional support a doula can offer can be invaluable for a nervous, and even an experienced, mother. If the medical facility does not allow the doula to enter the operating room, then the doula will be available for support just prior and after the procedure, either in the patients room or in recovery.

Yes a woman facing major surgery can benefit greatly from a doulas emotional support. The doula may or may not be in the operating room, depending on the wishes of the family and the medical staff, but either way, the doula is still there for the new mother in the recovery room.
