Does a blood test show the amount of Electrolyte a person has?
Yes, a blood test is available to indicate levels of Electrolytes. When an electrolyte test is performed, the measured ions usually include sodium, potassium, chloride, and bicarbonate. (Calcium and magnesium levels are also sometimes obtained as part of this test). The whole blood will be ‘spun down’ in a centrifuge machine after collection, in order to separate the red blood cells from the serum (watery fluid), as only the serum is required.
