I don’t know about Borax, but regular table salt will kill fleas in the carpet. Leave it on a couple of days & then vacuum them up. No more fleas! Make sure you change the vacuum bag after you sweep them up.

Not toxic by contact but it can be irritating. It can be toxic if ingested though. It can take up to 4 months for all the flea eggs to hatch out, so I would guess once a month for 4 months. You can also do daily vacuuming, the trauma of the vacuum will kill adult fleas.
