Does 14k white gold cause any allergic reactions for those with sensitive skin?”
Pure white gold should not cause a problem for sensitive skin. However, a lot of white gold is mixed with nickel. I usually ask a jeweler to verify that it is not an alloy, but a pure white gold. If you think the jeweler is sketchy, ie they are selling from a booth in a mall, or cardboard from the corner, go to a reputable jeweler. If you have pieces that you suspect are not pure white gold, you can always take them to a jeweler and have someone verify it is real. Hope this helps!
Commonly the cause of an allergic reaction in white gold is nickel in the alloy. White gold can be made with pallidium which would then hopefully not give the allergic reaction. Yellow gold- nickel is not used in yellow golds, but zinc, silver and copper are. There have also been instances of someone being allergic to the copper. But more often than not the nickel is the problem. As I have had personal problems with that myself. I can only wear jewelry from certain companys so that I know that I am not wasting my money. Allergic reactions do not go away within the day, so I am very careful as to what I wear.
