Do younger people need to eat more cals than older people?
In general, yes. Persons under 21 certainly need to, as the body is still growing (you may have reached maximum height but the internal organs are still developing which is why too much alcohol/tobacco is not good for younger people). Older people need less carbs. I’m 52 and up to 2 years ago I ate about 3000 per day, as I was still weightlifting and playing cricket, but I’ve cut down to 2200 per day now as I have an arthritic hip (ostensibly from putting all me weight on it when bowling in cricket – I played for 40 years). Older people do tend to move more slowly than the young, and often have been promoted from active jobs to supervisory roles or management positions, in which less physical effort is required. Furthermore, metabolism tends to peak at around 30 years of age so older folk do not burn off the cals naturally – irrespective of exercise levels- as fast as our younger brethren and sisters. Older people need not give up. To compensate for having to abandon cricket and weight
