Do you think the United States would have received its independence peacefully if it had just waited?
Canada and Australia aren’t entirely independent, they’re just part of the British Commonwealth. They recognize Queen Elizabeth II as their Head of State, but otherwise are pretty much left to govern themselves freely. I’m sure if the US had waited as you propose, we would be much the same as Canada and Australia today, independent in all but name from the UK. Our head of state would be the Queen, while the head of our government would be a Prime Minister. Of course viewing current government in the US, I feel a soverign as our head of state would be preferable to what we have now. …..and to some of the people above: Ireland is an independent country, and has been since 1922. It’s called the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, because the majority of the people in Northern Ireland wished to remain part of the UK.
