Do you think the super volcano in yellowstone park is a threat to humanity?
Darth Continent’s suggestion that you see Supervolcano to get an idea as to the threat that another eruption from the Yellowstone Plateau could pose is a good one. However, there are a few things that should be noted about this. First of all, that movie is based on the scenario in which the eruption is as large as the first eruption from that area (the Huckleberry Ridge eruption). However, each of the following two eruption were smaller than the previous. (They would have still been pretty devastating as well, but not as bad as the one in the movie.) This has led some geologist to think that we may not see another eruption from this region. The theory is that the hotspot that generated this activity is now moving under a section of old, thicker, and colder crust that it just might not be able to burn through. So, Yellowstone may be dying. This is just a theory, but I put it out there for consideration. The point is that IF Yellowstone erupts again, then it will be pretty catastrophic,
