Toyota will put a significant dent in the pickup truck sales of GM and Ford (who knows how much longer Chrysler will be around?), but I doubt that they’ll ever take over the #1 spot. First of all, pickup truck owners tend to be more brand-loyal than other vehicle owners, so a lot of “Ford guys” and “Chevy guys” won’t buy Toyota for any reason. Also, a lot of pickup truck sales are to commercial and government fleets. I don’t think switching from a domestic-branded make to Toyota (even though the Tundra is made in Texas) is politically viable for many of those fleets.
