Do you think the early Hurricane Dean predictions are giving people a false sense of security?

I don’t think people have let their guard down, there seems to be quite a bit of apprehension. The people that live within 30 or 40 miles of the coast are the ones that should be allowed to evacuate. There are over 5 million people in the greater Houston area, and only about 30% of those people need to evacuate if a cat 2 or greater threatens the Houston area. The chaos caused by panic can be worse than the storm damage. I guess it all depends on where you live. I live in the Sugar Land area which has an elevation of about 80 feet. However it is about 50 miles from the beach. I think I would rather spend the night in a closet listening to the howling wind, than spend the night in my car in grid lock traffic worrying about running out of gas or being mugged by somebody. And also I am somewhat prepared for the aftermath of a major storm. I have plenty of food, gas and bullets.
