Do you think the 12 person jury system is is passe?
The Jury system was less about corruption and more about a recognition that legal professionals, both the lawyers and the judges, can get so wrapped up in the intricacies of the statutory language that they lose sight of the actual goal, which is justice. The purpose of the 12 good citizens and true was to hear the facts and apply some common sense to the matter, which is why their decision was the final determinant. I’d say the problem today is the way the courts are allowed to deny the jurors all the relevant facts forcing them to decide with incomplete information.
