Do you think that virtual realities will ever become indistinguishable from egular reality?”
For virtual reality to mimic actual reality, you’d have to get all five senses into it. I imagine that eventually the visual and audio stuff will be comparable to what we see and hear every day outside (or maybe even better depending on pre-existing eye conditions), but the rest are going to be hard. Some video games have an element of touch built into them (vibrating controllers, etc), but they’re a long way off from allowing us to feel a breeze, for instance. Taste and smell are going to be even harder. It would take direct and precise manipulation of the brain to do all of that. Maybe someone will do it some day, but I don’t see it happening soon. Fox had a short-lived series about “real” virtual reality once called VR5.
