It’s finally over; well, almost. McGrady clamored to play, and the Rockets finally caved in. Granting him seven to eight minutes per game, the Rockets had a chance to see his production while potentially having an ulterior motive: the ability to showcase T-Mac to potential suitors. In his return, the deal was, in the first six games McGrady would play six to seven minutes during the first quarter, and that would be his only stint regardless of how well or how poorly he played. After that, he would be further evaluated for a potential bigger role in the offense. The six games came and went, and McGrady suggested it was time for the Rockets to increase his minutes. Steve Nash has closed to within 2,375 votes of the horrifically-undeserving Tracy McGrady in the race for a starting spot on the Western Conference All-Stars. McGrady left the Rockets before Christmas and is training on his own while awaiting a trade. Many observers — including Lakers coach Phil Jackson — have suggested that votes from Asia are inflating McGrady’s vote totals. McGrady and his Houston Rocket teammates are popular in China because they play with Yao Ming. Some evidence to support the theory: Houston’s Trevor Ariza and Luis Scola are both ahead of Shawn Marion, Ron Artest and Lamar Odom in the voting, and Aaron Brooks leads Jason Kidd, Chauncey Billups, Deron Williams and Tony Parker.
