Do you think that television programs aimed a children today, are suitable for their age?

We don’t have cable, so I don’t see a big range of it. But I’d say that pbs shows generally are well targeted to their age ranges. Curious George, Fetch, and shows like that are definitely better suited and developmentally appropriate for little kids than anything available when I was a kid. I do think that the age groups allegedly targeted by a show and the age groups that actually watch it don’t always match. So when a show is designed for teens but watched by 8-year-olds, sure, they wind up unsuitable. I see it as the parent’s job to find what’s actually suitable for their own kids.

No, I find a lot of the programs make the ‘star’ of the show rude and abusive with a total lack of respect for parents and authoritys, the people in the programs live ridculous lives in huge trendy houses where the parents are always out, they help themselves to whatever they like and have endless supplys of cash, they do what they like and when they like. When or if the parents are shown in the program the kids treat them like dirt and the parent laughs along wanting to be one of the kids throwing sarcastic comments at each other, theres too much sexual references too much violence, these kids never go to school, do homework, housework and give the impression to kids watching that this is how their lives should be, I hate kids programmes today.

Ya know? I was a kid once. I enjoyed the senseless violence of looney toons and tom and jerry. But I saw too many kids on the playground who dangerously tried to re-enact the scenes. I was relieved when I noticed that they seem to have been replaces with more friendly content – much of it with age appropriate educational themes. I was happy to see that tv finally seems to have some sense about it and stopped worrying as much about what my daughter sees 🙂 A few years later … Wow! I think this stuff is even worse. It feels so weird knowing that I send the cable company $20 every month in hopes that some day, something good will be on. … I think maybe I could find more age-appropriate stuff if I had one of the more expensive packages. But I can’t afford them. Anyhow, I think that some of the television programs aimed at children are suitable for their ages. But most of it has parts that I think they could have easily skipped over and still have a nice show. … Even when I do find so
