Do you think that pedophilia should be listed under sexual orientation instead of a disorder?
I feel like there is a lot of confusion in the answers listed here, as there should be about sexual “disorders” or orientations. Indeed, homosexuality was once (and still is in some cases) looked at as a disorder. When someone is aroused by means that aren’t considered normal to our society, what they have is called a paraphilia, not so much orientation, as that indicates gender. That’s where the difference lies. There are many cases where Pedophiles, Frotteurists, Narratophilists, etc are arrested and given little sympathy, just like alcoholics and drug users. It may not be their fault that they prefer that means, but it is an issue if it hurts the recipient of the attraction. There are many paraphilias that are considered deviant and wrong, but not necessarily illegal. The problem with some is that they involve non-consenting persons.
