Do you think that most americans are not aware of etiquette rules regarding the flag?
As a military spouse, I would have to say that most Americans are not familiar with flag etiquette. They may know one or two rules but not the others. I have often driven at night past many homes during Veteran’s Day or 4th of July for example and the flag is still out and not illuminated. I have observed this sadly in military communities as well as civilian. In our town during Memorial Day the flag downtown always flies full staff, however there is a rule where it is supposed to fly half staff until noon on Memorial Day. Considering it was not corrected for years and in full public view, that meant a good portion of the town also didn’t have that knowledge because until 2 years ago was that corrected. These are only a couple minor rules but no, it is not common knowledge to the majority. Other Examples of Rules When used to cover a casket, the flag should be placed with the union at the head and over the left shoulder. It should not be lowered into the grave. The flag should not be u
