Do you think that Doordarshan will be the first one to air HDTV Transmission?
AK: There are two things while discussing the HDTV transmission- HDTV transmission in Terrestrial mode and HDTV in Satellite mode. As far as the Terrestrial mode in India is concerned only Doordarshan is authorized to transmit terrestrial TV signals, as of date. So, as far as the terrestrial TV is concerned, Yes, Doordarshan will be the first one to transmit HDTV transmission. But as far as the Satellite mode is concerned, it would be very difficult to say whether Doordarshan will be the first one to do this. As I know Lok Sabha TV and some other channels are capable of transmitting HDTV signals through satellite mode. If they want to they can do it even today. MM: Do you see Doordarshan the only suspect for Common Wealth Game? AK: DD is the host broadcaster for Common Wealth Games and we will be producing the coverage in HDTV format. So, for today the statement is true. If things change tomorrow, I can’t say. For Doordarshan we are committed to give HDTV transmission in Satellite mode
