Do you think that after market car stereos are losing competion against car mamufacturers?
The real answer to this has little to do with who makes a better quality stereo. The answer is that newer vehicles are becoming so integrated that it is more and more difficult to put an aftermarket radio in. Years ago the most you needed for 90% of the vehicles was a wire harness and a dash kit. This would cost around $30. With all the “onstar”, “bose”, amplified, integrated etc. factory systems, it is not uncommon to have to purchase a $100+ adapter, on top of your kit and harness to put an aftermarket radio in. This is why the companies you mentioned are losing market share, because it has become too expensive in some vehicles to change the radio. We as an industry have many more years of selling aftermarket radios, because there are many older cars still left on the road. But in the near future, every car made will be so integrated, (controls for keyless, sensors, onstar etc being built into or plugged into the radio) that it will become almost impossible to change the radio.
