Do you think Royal Mail should be privatised?
No, it seems that Royal Mail is having problems now because since the postal system has been opened up to competition large businesses have been taking advantage of this and using other companies, and the less profitable market of small businesses and households has been left to Royal Mail to pick up, who consequently cannot provide the required level of service without increasing prices or needing subsidies. If Royal Mail was scrapped as a nationalised industry and private companies run for profit took over this pattern would be repeated and the smaller users would have an even worse service. Another bad sign is that in theory competing companies could already have been set up to target the domestic market and small businesses and they haven’t because they know there would be no profits in it, so imagine how bad and expensive a service we would have if companies that had to make profits for shareholders were running it. So I would suggest re-nationalising the whole thing.
